On 12 April 2023, in response to an emergency callout from local residents in Lam Dot commune, A Luoi district, the NPA Vietnam’s multi-task team operating in Thua Thien Hue province removed a 500-pound aircraft bomb. The 37-year-old Po Loong Kieu who lives in Chi Hoa village discovered the bomb at a depth of three meters while preparing the ground to build his new house.

Because of the bomb’s location within the residential area, the NPA team coordinated with the local authorities to evacuate all 30 families living in the vicinity before proceeding to remove it. The NPA team conducted a render-safe procedure to ensure that the Mk82 bomb was safe to remove and later the team transported the bomb to the NPA central demolition site in Phong Dien district for safe disposal.
