INTRODUCTION WORKSHOP MINE ACTION DATABASE UNIT OF THUA THIEN HUE PROVINECE

On the 10 March 2023, Thua Thien Hue Department of Foreign Affairs (DOFA), in collaboration with Norwegian People Aid Vietnam successfully conducted the Workshop on the Mine Action Database Unit of Thua Thien Hue province (Hue DBU). The workshop aimed to officially introduce the DBU and new coordination model to all relevant provincial authorities in Hue. Other stakeholders attending was Quang Binh and Quang Tri DOFA, as well as Vietnam National Mine Action Center, Quang Tri Mine Action Center, Quang Binh Database and Coordination Unit, Peace Trees, Mines Advisory Group, Catholic Relief Service, and the media.


Established during 2021/2022, the Hue DBU is a project fully implemented by Hue DOFA, with support from NPA and made possible thanks to the funding from Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Utenriksdepartementet (Norge)
The workshop was a great opportunity to highlight the positive changes within mine action sector in Hue province since the DBU was set up, most notably the increasing support and coordination between the Hue Provincial People’s Committee, Department of Foreign Affairs, and the Provincial Military Command and mine action operators. At the workshop, the DBU presented their processes of collecting, sharing and reporting mine action information and data from mine action operators in province.

“Thua Thien Hue DOFA and the DBU Project Management Unit are requested to continue to take lead and coordinate with the Provincial Military Command, relevant departments, agencies, local authorities, and INGOs to update all mine action activities to the DBU”, said Mr. Hoang Hai Minh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee during his remarks at the workshop.
Mr. Ikram Shehu, NPA Vietnam Information Management advisor, extended the congratulation from NPA to Thua Thien Hue province in general and DBU in particular, for the important successes that Thua Thien Hue province initially has achieved in mine action over recent years, and he reassured NPA’s continued support to Thua Thien Hue province in the coming time in our joint effort to address the remaining legacy of war contamination. 💕
